What I did

Play the News was ImpactGames’ second project after their hugely successful serious game, Peacemaker. I joined ImpactGames as an intern to work on Play the News supporting the lead designer. After the lead designer left, I stepped into his role.

In Play the News, players assume the role of major stakeholders in current news events and they try to predict the outcome of the event based on that stakeholder’s experience. As the news story progresses, the game is updated and eventually closed, and the player is rewarded based on their ability to predict the outcome of current events. Play the News aimed at releasing 3-5 new games a week.

The fast-paced nature of current events made for a fast-paced workplace. My major role was to use ImpactGames’ proprietary game design software to create a daily game using image and video assets I either created or edited. Other major projects included:

  • Creating flows and mocks for an updated flow to the Play the News game. After desigining, I worked with the lead programmer to implement these changes using HTML and CSS.
  • Updated the Play the News facebook platform layout and flow.
  • Designing and coding skinned versions of the Play the News interface for clients interested in using the Play the News platform to create their own games. Clients included Disney and ABC.
